German hostels of the late 60's and early 70's were a often a pre war throwback. Cold barracks; marching music to awaken; coffee; rye bread, butter and jam only for breakfast. But so what; they were a wonderful immersive experience. Often I was traveling in winter so was infrequently the sole occupant of a sleeping dormitory (Koblenz - castle) - very happy I had my sleeping bag in addition to German wool blankets. In Augsburg I shared a dorm with German soldiers and we drank forbidden beer and schnapps half the night. I met a girl in Freiburg and later slipped out of a window in Lubeck to join her at a student club. Not much sleep that night though I got back through the window in time for the march music. Everything changes; looks like a softer life these days! Cheers.

great video - i am so happy to see the inside as well as out - i know for many many years the castle was left to the elements and showing signs of decay - now it has new life and a very historical place in history as well as being one of the most incredible places to stay - if any of those who survived back then could see it again - i'm sure they'd love to stay over - many thanks
